How JQ Werks Products Are Made: Engineering Every Detail

At JQ Werks, a product is never defined by a single feature or material. It is the result of an entire engineering process—from the first CNC-machined component to the final inspection before it leaves our facility.

Our products are designed for drivers who expect more than an upgrade that simply looks the part. Every component must fit precisely, function reliably, and continue performing under real-world and motorsport conditions. That standard influences how we machine our components, develop our electronics, build our wiring systems, select our materials, and manage final assembly.

Here is a closer look at how JQ Werks products are made—and why even the details most customers will never see matter to us.

1. Precision CNC Machining at the Core

Precision CNC machining is at the center of nearly every product we create. Depending on the geometry and function of each component, we combine five-axis and three-axis CNC machining to achieve the required accuracy, strength, and finish.

Our racing steering wheel hub systems are a clear example. Many of the hub components feature complex profiles, tight interfaces, and carefully shaped surfaces that cannot be achieved properly with basic manufacturing methods. Five-axis machining allows us to work across multiple surfaces with exceptional consistency, helping every component align correctly while giving the finished system its precise, integrated appearance.

For critical structural and high-precision components, we use 7075 aluminum. Its excellent strength-to-weight ratio makes it the right material for areas where rigidity, durability, and dimensional accuracy are essential. Material choice alone, however, is never enough. The final performance of the part also depends on how it is machined, how the tolerances are controlled, and how it interfaces with the rest of the system.

This attention to machining extends far beyond the parts customers immediately notice. Many of the small internal components found throughout our products are also produced specifically for JQ Werks instead of being selected from a catalog or purchased as generic off-the-shelf hardware.

Take the rotary knobs on our joysticks, for example. Each one is CNC machined, including the hollowed design on the back—a detail most owners may never see after installation. Inside the hub, even the connector housing is precision machined from engineering-grade acetal, selected for its dimensional stability, durability, and smooth mechanical properties.

These components may be small, but they influence how the product fits, feels, and performs. To us, an unseen part deserves the same level of engineering as an exterior component.

2. A Fully In-House Electronic Ecosystem

Mechanical precision is only one part of a modern steering wheel system. The electronics and software behind it are equally important.

JQ Werks develops its electronic ecosystem as a complete, integrated platform. From the circuit boards and CAN bus integration modules to MADTRACE® LAB, the hardware, firmware, software, system architecture, and control logic are independently developed by our engineering team.

This full-stack approach gives us control over how every part of the system communicates. Instead of assembling unrelated third-party modules and attempting to make them work together, we develop each layer around the requirements of the complete product.

That matters because communication with a modern vehicle is not a simple on-or-off function. The system must interpret vehicle data, process inputs, and communicate reliably without compromising the original operation of the car. Hardware design, signal management, control algorithms, and software configuration all have to work as one system.

Owning the entire development process also allows us to improve and expand the platform over time. New functions, vehicle integrations, and configuration options can be developed within the same ecosystem instead of being restricted by generic third-party hardware or software.

For the customer, the complexity remains behind the scenes. What they experience is a system designed to work together from the beginning.

3. OEM-Grade Wiring and Connectors

A sophisticated electronic system is only as dependable as the wiring that connects it.

We use OEM automotive-grade wiring, terminals, and connectors throughout our products. Customers often notice that a JQ Werks harness feels thicker and more rigid than many aftermarket alternatives. That difference is intentional. It reflects the conductor specification, insulation, protective construction, and connector quality required for a stable automotive system.

Automotive wiring must operate in an environment exposed to vibration, temperature changes, repeated steering movement, and long-term use. A lighter or more flexible harness may look acceptable during installation, but dependable operation requires more than appearance or convenience. Wire gauge, insulation quality, terminal retention, connector fitment, strain relief, and routing all contribute to reliability.

The same principle applies to the connectors. A connector should lock securely, maintain consistent contact, and remain stable through vibration and repeated use. For that reason, we do not treat the wiring harness as a secondary accessory. It is engineered as a critical part of the complete system.

The difference can be seen and felt, but its true value is proven over time.

4. Materials Selected Without Shortcuts

Material choice affects far more than appearance. It determines how a component feels, how it handles repeated load, how accurately it can be manufactured, and how well it will age.

Even with our entry-level Clubsport Line, we combine dry carbon fiber with CNC-machined components rather than relying on inexpensive molded plastic for major structural and visual elements. This approach gives the system the rigidity, precision, and premium finish expected from a purpose-built motorsport product.

Our latest paddle shifter line takes the same philosophy further. The dry carbon fiber paddles are produced with precision steel molds and formed under high temperature and pressure in an autoclave. This process helps create consistent thickness, controlled fiber compression, clean edges, and a refined surface finish across every paddle.

Dry carbon fiber is not selected simply because it is associated with motorsport. When it is produced correctly, it offers a strong and lightweight structure with excellent rigidity. Combined with accurately machined hardware, it allows the paddle assembly to deliver the direct and mechanical response that defines the driving experience.

From 7075 aluminum and machined engineering polymers to dry carbon fiber, every material is selected according to the job it must perform. We do not use premium materials as decoration. We use them because the complete product demands them.

5. Assembly and Quality Control

Precision parts only become a precision product when they are assembled and inspected with the same level of discipline.

JQ Werks maintains a structured assembly and quality-control process for every product. Components, hardware, tools, and work-in-progress units are organized with near-obsessive attention to placement and consistency. This is not simply about keeping a clean assembly area. A controlled workspace helps reduce mistakes, protect finished surfaces, maintain repeatable procedures, and ensure that every required component can be verified throughout the build.

Quality control does not happen only once at the end. Products are inspected at multiple stages during assembly, then function-tested and reviewed again before packaging. Depending on the product, this process can include checking component fitment, hardware installation, mechanical operation, electrical communication, button and control inputs, surface condition, and final contents.

Only after the product has passed these inspections is it cleaned, carefully packaged, and prepared for the customer.

This process requires more time, but it is essential. The final product represents every decision made before it: the design, the machining, the electronics, the wiring, the materials, and the hands that assembled it. Final QC is where all of those standards come together.

Built as a Complete System

What separates a purpose-built product from a collection of parts is the way every detail works together.

At JQ Werks, we control the process from precision machining and material selection to electronics, software, wiring, assembly, and testing. That allows us to develop products as complete systems rather than disconnected components.

Some of the engineering is immediately visible: the carbon fiber, the machined aluminum, and the surface finish. Much of it is not: the hollowed back of a joystick knob, the machined connector inside a hub, the circuit-board architecture, the control algorithms, or the terminals inside a wiring harness.

We believe those unseen details matter just as much.

That is how JQ Werks products are made—with precision in every component, control over every system, and no shortcuts where quality and reliability are concerned.
